Bill Aaron, Director of Training at Engineered Corrosion Solutions

Bill Aaron has worked in the fire protection industry for over thirty years with experience in installation, project management, consultation, inspection, installation, and design of fire protection systems. Bill has obtained a certification in Fire Alarm Systems from National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level IV, served on the NICET Board of Governors, and is a past chairman of the NICET Board of Governors. He served as a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) technical committee for NFPA 2 and NFPA 720. He also served as a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Board of Directors and the NSPE House of Delegates.  Bill has been educating engineers’, sprinkler contractors, sprinkler fitters and property managers through ECS University and educational lunch-and-learn sessions since 2017.

    Presentation Description:

This presentation discusses the science of corrosion in fire sprinkler systems. The benefits and practical application of using Nitrogen Gas to inert Wet Pipe, Dry Pipe and Preaction Fire Sprinkler Systems to prevent and manage internal corrosion. Under a nitrogen atmosphere, oxygen corrosion, which is the primary cause of corrosion-related failures in sprinkler systems, can be completely controlled, resulting in reduced risk (life safety, leak, and business continuity),enhanced performance, and extended life of the fire sprinkler system.

    Discussions will include:

    1. Understanding the science of corrosion in fire sprinkler systems

    2. Understanding the operation of nitrogen generators.

    3. Inspection testing and maintenance of nitrogen generators.

    4. Reducing corrosion in wet pipe sprinkler systems.

    5. Eliminating oxygen corrosion in wet pipe sprinkler systems using ECS’s wet pipe nitrogen inerting (WPNI) protocol.

    6. Eliminating ice plugs in fire sprinkler systems in cold storage applications.

    7. Investigation strategies that reduce the scope to remediate a leaking sprinkler system.

    Lunch will be sponsored by:

The Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co. Inc. - George Nicola (Technical Services) holds court with the Reliable Demo Trailer at Daytona Beach for the Florida Fire Sprinkler Association. Great venue, great people, greatShown above is Reliable's Valve Demonstration Trailer (Demo Trailer) used to present education programs to Contractors, Fitters, AHJ's and Engineers.  Within the Demo Trailer are a number of working Special Hazard and Dry Type Fire Protection Systems and each is connected to a pipe assembly to flow sprinkler heads.  After connection to a water and power supply, the Demo Trailer simulates field conditions in which the systems are "live".  The program covers the description, setup and operation of each system.  To "trip" the systems, sprinkler heads are activated showing spray distribution patterns and the related effectiveness of fire sprinklers.  The program is informal and designed to benefit all Fire Protection Industry Professionals.

    Registration begins at 8:30am
